Oxford Microbeams at a glance

How we built Oxford Microbeams' site

The Oxford Microbeams home page.

The brief

Oxford Microbeams makes equipment for ion beam analysis, used by universities and national laboratories. Its old hosting could not offer https, would not let the company manage its own domain records, and its mailboxes were full.

Worse, the old server was telling customers' installed software that no update was available when there was one.

What we built

  • A rebuilt website with 16 product pages and a downloads page that shows each package's version, date and size, read from the files themselves
  • 26 old addresses redirected to their new pages, so existing links and search results kept working
  • A move to a new UK host, with https throughout
  • Email moved to a new provider, with the anti-spoofing checks (DKIM and DMARC) passing
  • A release tool for publishing software updates to customers' instruments, tested end to end on Windows 11
  • A sitemap, accessibility fixes and browser caching

How it turned out

The new site went live on 28 August 2026. At the switch, all 23 pages and 18 download files were checked to be identical to the originals. It scores 100 out of 100 in all four Google Lighthouse categories, with no accessibility issues found on any page.

The email moved over on 25 September 2026, and the new setup costs a fraction of the old one.
