Pay less for your website, often nothing at all

Hosting companies usually sell far more than a small business needs. Depending on what your site does, there are good free options. We'll help you move everything over, so your subscriptions are much lower, or even free.

Most small sites are paying for more than they need

Website builders and hosting plans are priced around features most small businesses never use: big storage allowances, bundled extras and "business" tiers. Meanwhile, a typical small business site needs to load quickly, stay secure and be easy to update.

Many sites can run on a free hosting plan from a large, reliable provider, with https and fast loading worldwide included. You still pay for your domain name, usually around £10 to £15 a year. Sites that need more, such as an online shop, booking or a members' area, can usually move to something much cheaper than what they are on now.

We look at what your site does, tell you what it needs, and give you the running costs before and after, before you decide. This website runs on a free hosting plan.

What we move

  • Websites and shops, with every old address redirected to its new page.
  • Email, including the old messages, with the switch timed so no new mail goes missing.
  • Domains and DNS records, so you own and control your own domain name.
  • Security certificates, so your site stays on https throughout.

How we do it

  1. We list everything the current provider does for you, including the things nobody remembers setting up.
  2. We set up the new home and copy everything across while the old one keeps running.
  3. We switch over at a quiet time, then check the website, email and redirects from outside your network.
  4. Only when everything is confirmed working do we help you close the old account.

Examples from our work

  • Oxford Microbeams: website, email and domain records moved to a new provider without losing mail.
  • Matt Davies, children's author: a site and shop moved from Squarespace to Shopify, with every old address redirected and the monthly bill cut to a fraction.

Questions people ask

No. The new site is ready before we switch, and the old one keeps running until the change has reached everyone.

No. We copy your existing mailboxes across and time the switch so that new mail arrives in the new place.

You will. It stays registered to your business, and you keep the login.

For the right kind of site, yes. The free plans we use come from large providers that also run some of the busiest sites on the internet. If your site needs something a free plan can't do, we tell you, and suggest the cheapest plan that can.
